Auringonkukkalaakso - Pikkala (25-11-2012)

Regular O training with auto generated map. There is no O map of this area and I have never been here before. Last evening I downloaded data from web and let my laptop make tha map while I was watching TV. this morning I printed it out and draw a course, drore there and ran it. Nice training, superb terrain, map was good, all the contrur details and cliffs was there and easy to read and understand. Even green was pretty accurate here, new parameters I used here did a good job. I ran rather slowly for my injured foot, so I think did read all the details along the way. If this lidar + pullautin thing isn't a small revolution what it comes to O training in Scandinavia and especially Finland (for open lidar data) then I don't know what could be. Using pullautin just for rogaining and long terrain runs is just nonsense and waste of good O training material.

GPS track is aligned with only two points, countrols 1 and 7. Track was recorded with Suunto's new (yet to be released?) track pod, after some runs I believe it records about 2 or three times more accurate track than any wrist gps I have trieds so far. Good companion when training with these lidar/Pullautin maps - making overlays is easy and you will easily spot if you have missed a control like I did here at #14. I thought the knoll and yellow is the larger yellow (west) and picked a small unmapped knoll. it was really smal, height was maybe 10 cm, so I should have noticed it...
